BRUTAL DOOM vs BRUTAL DOOM64 - remake vs complete new game

 The DOOM64 Unlike the ports for other consoles, it's not exactly a port, but a completely new game, featuring completely new levels, textures, sprites, enemies, and a new plot that takes place right after the events of Doom 2, and it's plot strongly suggests to be the prequel to "Doom 2016" 

Here we will analize and compared the Brutal DOOM (a enhanced version of DOOM) and the BRUTALDOOM64 the only way to play DOOM64 in linux


Doom64 was released to almost all the systems but linux of course not! (as always) BUT there is a total conversion work, at 2016, later a new total conversion mod with the spirit of Brutal DOOM!

Brutal Doom 64 is actually more faithful to the original DOOM64 than normal brutal doom, with it being mostly visual upgrades with the exception of tactical mode

But not all is great news, this new game (yes is a total new content) will need a special modified engine, currently only gzdoom and zandronum can play all the feaures (becouse of the special paths and ways of each mission, is not eye candy excuse only).

1) install the Debian or venenux package

2) download the mod from telegram (for debian and alpine there is a package also)

3) play the game


BRUTAL DOOM ?

Brutal doom is an enhanced mod for normal wad files of doom2, Created by SgtMkIV, that has been a bit of an a-hole in the Doom community, and he's historically borrowed some assets without permission.

It introduced new animations, some redefined textures, a lot of new players to old Doom. New weapons, new monsters and a bit modified new gameplay. The mod is several new files but the base one just enhanced the original doom2wad file.

Some of the new players that skipped vanilla Doom have caused headaches in the community for various developers of other wads. Plenty of these new fans have been ridiculed for throwing a fit when some other WAD is incompatible with Brutal Doom. The new fans have left a sour taste in the old community's mouth.

The files are the base (brutaldoom 2.2) the Doommetal sound files and the Valhalla that is part of the real brutal doom campain (means if you use only base brutal doom will play the normal doom2 campain only)

DOOM64 vs BRUTAL DOOM64


Doom 64 has better more dynamic puzzles and more faithful textures (obviously). Weapon animations are poorer (no shotgun and super shotgun reload animations). It lacks the spider mastermind, chain gun guy, revenant and archvile monsters. Doom 64 has the lost levels

Brutal doom 64 has better reload animations. A more complete monter set but no archvile (though the revenant and hellhound sprites are copied from Blood and modified slightly). Two new weapons in the form of the assualt rifle and laser gun. Lastly gore has been added to the monsters but not as over the top as brutal doom.


BRUTAL DOOM vs BRUTAL DOOM64

Brutal doom is only a mod that enhanced the doom2 game (works also for doom but in minor way), so BRUTALDOOM is not a game per se!

Brutal doom64 is a complete new game, still will need the doom2 wad file but is not the doom3 game .. 



WE WILL NEED THE ORIGINAL FILE OR NOT?

No but Yes and no! BRUTAL DOOM64 unless will need the wad original file but will not be playable and will not use any map from this game wad.

Brutal DOOM works with any DOOM2 wad.. currently there is 4 release of DOOM2.WAD file, the original, the BFG, the id collection wad (a rare version only) and the ultimate collectors wad. All of those are named same (doom2.wad) to work! and to play BRUTALDOOM you must own and have one of these files.. 

Brutal DOOM64 does not use any map of the original game! but will need the original file cos the engine is the culprit of this requirements!
